Animal ID: REHOME1Rufus (male)

Dutch Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rufus is an approximately 4 year old male that we've guessed to be a shepherd/pharoah hound mix. He is very alert and sensitive to his surroundings. He would make a wonderful, affectionate companion when paired with the right owner. As a puppy, he was adopted by a woman that had cancer, and after 7 months that woman passed away so a family friend took in Rufus. A year and a half ago Rufus had a litter and started exhibiting signs of aggression towards his male puppy and also agression towards various people. As a result, the owner that has small children feels safer finding a new home for Rufus. We believe his behavior issues are ... (Read More)fear-based aggression, which we believe can be overcome with a patient owner who has a keen sense of how to appropriately interact with a dog and manage a dog's behavior. Please watch his YouTube video to get a better idea of what a sweet boy Rufus is with the right handler. Because his issues are not fully understood and he has snapped before, we recommend a home with no small children. Also, since Rufus has been identified as a dog with potential behavioral problems he may only be adopted to an individual or couple that is willing to complete a handling management program sponsored by Alpha and Omega dog training in partnership with the shelter (A $1200 VALUE and the classes are at your home!). The cost of the program will be fully covered and permanent ownership is contigent upon successful completion of the course. He has shown great potential with one of our volunteers who, upon entering Rufus' living area, is showered with doggie kisses and is even given an exposed belly to rub. Give Rufus the opportunity to be the good boy we know he can be and adopt today! For further details about Rufus please contact Chuck at (216) 233-0664 or email at YouTube video: (Less)
